Two months after she, along with 500 women supporters, was stopped by the police for entering Shani Shingnapur Temple in Aurangabad, Trupti Desai was yet again detained on Friday after she tried to enter Trimbakeshwar temple to offer prayers.

“We offered prayers to Lord Shiva at Trimbakeshwar temple and prayed that women be allowed in temple’s sanctum. We are inside the temple which is itself a very big thing,” said Desai as per a report by the ANI. As soon as the news spread about her detention, local women, however, gathered outside the temple and protested against police action.

The Trimbakeshwar temple in Nashik district of Maharashtra which worships Lord Shiva does not allow women to enter its premises. Desai and her supporters have been demanding for the removal of this old-age custom.

However, the temple trust maintained that the ban on the entry of women is based on tradition and said that  no objection has ever been raised on the issue.
