A colony in Delhi has become the first in the national capital to have running drinking water in its taps all day round. Given it’s in a city that has limited water supply and has just this year had water supply to some areas were stopped because of high ammonia content, it is a big deal.
The pilot scheme in the Malviya Nagar area of south Delhi was innaugurated by Delhi’s Water Minister Kapil Mishra and Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia.
And they were just as thrilled to inaugurate the scheme:
The residential colony in the Malviya Nagar area is going to get 24×7 access to drinking water from its taps and is expected to benefit 1900 people.
The scheme has reportedly been developed by the Delhi government with a French company called Suez, reports the Indian Express.
The Hindustan Times reports that the region was chosen because the water network could be easily isolated and authorities could convince residents to bypass their underground reservoirs to avoid contamination of the drinking water supply.
