BrihanMumbai Municipal corporation (BMC) has been sued for an amount of Rs 1.5 crore by a man in Mumbai, as compensation for a missed job opportunity after falling into an improperly covered manhole.

According to a report on CNN-IBN, on November 29, Vijay Hingorani broke his leg after falling into the manhole in Mumbai’s Carter Road area. Hingorani had to go to Bengaluru in a month for taking up a new job.

Working as a business analyst, Hingorani  is the only working person in his family, who sued the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation for Rs 1.5 crore as damages for medical expenses, physical injury and loss of livelihood.

“I had the opportunity of a lifetime and I lost it because of BMC. If it collects taxes, isn’t it the job of BMC to at least make sure the gutters are safe,” Hingorani told CNN IBN.

As per the reports, Hingorani was supposed to join a Bengaluru-based company on January 1 which offered him Rs 2.5 lakh a month.

While BMC has not commented on the incident, Hingorani has personally requested them to ensure that such incidents never occur again.
