On the day defence officials confirmed the death of the last terrorist involved in the audacious attack on the Pathankot air force base, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reportedly made a call to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the incident.
And according to an official statement, the conversation wasn’t as pleasant as when the two leaders last met in Lahore last month.
“Prime Minister Modi strongly emphasized the need for Pakistan to take firm and immediate action against the organizations and individuals responsible for and linked to the Pathankot terrorist attack,” an official statement issued by the government said.
The statement said that specific information has been provided to Pakistan to enable the national goverment to take action. And the Pakistani Prime Minister has promised action.
“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif assured Prime Minister Modi that his government would take prompt and decisive action against the terrorists,” the statement said.
The promise by the Pakistan government to take action against terror groups operating from within its soil isn’t new. But given the two nations have just restarted talks, India will be hoping it won’t be an empty promise all over again.
Seven security personnel were killed in the attack on the air force base near the India- Pakistan border.
