AI630 arrived from Nagpur when one of the tyres of Airbus-A320 burst during taxiing. The aircraft was taken to a taxiway where passengers were evacuated with the help of emergency chutes, an AI spokesperson said.

Some passengers suffered injuries while they were being evacuated through the emergency chute, airport sources said.

The incident took place at around 10 pm, the spokesperson said adding the aircraft was taken to a taxiway after the tyre burst where passengers were evacuated.

The spokesperson, however, said that no injury to any passenger was reported.

The flight operation from the main runway at Mumbai airport was shut due the incident, the sources said.

Following the mishap on Tuesday night, which forced flight services to be diverted to second runway, Air India CMD Ashwani Lohani said, “As an abundant precaution passengers were evacuated on the taxiway. The reasons for tyre burst are being looked at. Air India is giving highest priority to safety and therefore extra precautions are always taken.”
