It’s been in the making for 12 years and it’s finally here. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao-Mastani , a fictionalised version of the story of Peshwa Bajirao and his two wives, hit screens on Friday.

In her review for Film Companion, Anupama Chopra says that the film expectedly has opulent settings and is visually spectacular. But there are flaws.

“The characters seem as ornate as the surroundings. They pronounce rather than deliver dialogues. The film feels overtly ceremonious, purposefully epic, and in places, a little exhausting,” she says. But hang in there, she advises. It is a film that transports you to another world and it features some wonderful performances, particularly from the three lead actors Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone.

Chopra rates the film four out of five stars.
