Army Major, Two Militants Killed In Two Separate Encounters In Jammu & Kashmir

Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Whereas, in a separate incident, two Army personnel including a Major lost their lives and one got injured during another encounter with terrorists in Shopian district.

“Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Gopalpora area of Kulgam this morning,” a police official said.

He said one of the slain militants was involved in an attack on a bank cash van in the district on May 1 this year in which five policemen and two bank guards were killed. The security forces have recovered two weapons from the site of the encounter.

In Shopian, a cordon and search operation was launched by Army in Zaipora area last night following intelligence inputs about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

He said during the search operation, the militants fired upon the party in which three army personnel were injured, reports India Today.

The injured were taken to Army’s 92 base hospital here, where two of them, including a major, succumbed, the official said, adding that the other jawan is undergoing treatment.

These incidents took place few days after top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander and Pakistani national Abu Dujana was killed in Pulwama.
