BBC Left Out Sania Mirza In Wimbledon Doubles Win Tweet With Martina Hingis

Unless you have been living under a rock (has to be a really huge one), you couldn’t have missed Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza’s win at Wimbledon.

Hingis and Mirza beat Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina 5-7 7-6 (7-4) 7-5 to clinch the Women’s Wimbledon Double title. Woohoo!

A lmost everyone on Twitter, at one time or the other, had cracked jokes at Mirza’s expense on how she regularly exits after first rounds. But now, all of a sudden, everybody was happy that India’s dearest daughter had brought back a trophy.

Her #GharWapsi had all of Twitter abuzz.

Even this fairly known chap knew who to congratulate for the awesome win:

Everyone… but BBC India .

#ShameOnYouBBC

The British Broadcasting Corporation, apparently, believes doubles is only played and won by a single player. How else do you explain the above tweet? Worst part is, the handle hasn’t even replied or apologised. But they have deleted the tweet.

We are trying really hard to give them the benefit of the doubt… Maybe there was to be a separate tweet congratulating first-time double’s winner Mirza or maybe it was just a lazy intern. Whatever may be the excuse, Twitter was having none of it.

Strangely, even BBC’s report for the win only has Hingis in the headline .

Though @BBCSport got their tweeting right:

We all know what the term ‘sore loser’ means. But what was your excuse, BBC?
