Bengaluru welcomed the start of 2017 in probably the worst way possible on Saturday. On one of the city’s prominent roads of MG Road and Brigade road women were molested by groups of men despite the deployment of over 1500 policemen to ensure security on New Year’s Eve.

According to a Bangalore Mirror report, groups of unruly men in the crowd passed lewd comments, groped and molested women. Not one of them has been arrested despite photographic evidence in some instances and not a single case of molestation or sexual assault was registered.

While many women ran towards their male relatives or friends for help, those without male company sought help from women constables.

Police personnel deployed on Saturday also say that the decision to extend the deadline fors party till 2 am also made matters worse. The report says that the decision was taken after various eateries and other commercial establishments asserted pressure to get the extended deadline.
