In a welcome move, the cabinet of Bhutan has announced that the salaries of teachers, nurses, doctors and all medical staff will be hiked. This, in turn, will make them the highest paid civil servants in the country, according to an article published by The Indian Express. The cabinet took this decision on 5th June 2019.
This was termed as a “huge strategical move” by The Bhutanese, a regional newspaper because the new announcement has overturned the present hierarchy in which unofficial civil service officials get to enjoy various perks that include training and trips as well.
According to reports, this announcement will benefit about 8,679 teachers and around 4,000 medical staff in the country.
As per the press release issued by the Bhutanese Prime Minister’s Office, “If the pay revision comes through as proposed by the government, teaching becomes the highest paid profession in the country.”
