In good news, the govt has decided to reduce the price of bio-degradable sanitary napkins, ‘Suvidha’. The aim is to make menstrual hygiene products, more accessible to rural women.
According to reports, these biodegradable sanitary napkins will now be available at designated centres at this subsidised rate. The pads which were sold in a pack of four at Rs 10 are priced at Rs 4 only now.
Before launching these prices, the Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers had quoted,
We are launching oxo-biodegradable sanitary napkins at Re 1 from tomorrow. These napkins under the brand name Suvidha will be available at 5,500 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country. Currently, the manufacturers are supplying the sanitary napkins at their cost of production. So, we will provide subsidy to bring down the retail price.
With the reduction of prices by 60 percent, the minister had also added,
During the last one year, around 2.2 crore sanitary napkins have been sold from these stores. With reduction in the prices, we expect the sales to jump over two times. We are focusing on quality, affordability and accessibility.
