BJP Worker Who Campaigned For Smriti Irani Shot Dead In Amethi

Just days after BJP leader, Smriti Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi, a close aide of hers was shot dead in Amethi.

According to a report by NDTV, Surendra Singh, a BJP worker who had worked closely with Smriti Irani during the Lok Sabha elections was at his residence when some unidentified men shot him. 

He was referred to Lucknow but succumbed to his injuries on reaching the hospital. Talking to ANI, Amethi SP said:

“He was shot around 3 AM. We’ve taken a few suspects into custody and the probe is on. It can be due to an old dispute or a political dispute.”

Surendra Singh was the former village head of Baraulia village which was in news during election campaigning, when Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had accused Smriti Irani of distributing shoes to the residents in order to insult Rahul Gandhi.

The family is suspecting some Congress workers behind this act. 

Reports suggest that Smriti Irani has left for Amethi to meet the deceased’s family.
