The former London Mayor beat his main rival Jeremy Hunt with a comfortable margin – Johnson secured 92,153 votes while Hunt secured 46,656.

Delivering his victory speech, Johnson announced his promise to “deliver Brexit, unite the country and defeat Jeremy Corbyn”. He delivered his address at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in London, saying

We are going to get Brexit done on 31 October and take advantage of all the opportunities it will bring with a new spirit of can do. We are once again going to believe in ourselves, and like some slumbering giant we are going to rise and ping off the guy ropes of self doubt and negativity.

He will succeed Theresa May, who announced in June that she will resign from her post over complications regarding Brexit.
