NIA officer Mohammed Tanzil Ahmed, an assistant commandant with BSF who was on deputation in NIA, was returning to Sahaspur from the wedding of his niece when two unidentified bike-borne assailants stopped his car and shot at him on April 3.

His wife was also injured in the incident while his two children, on the back seat of the car being driven by the deceased, were safe.

Uttar Pradesh police said that some “personal matter” may have been the reason behind the killing to which the police claimed to have zeroed in on certain links and hoped to crack the case at the earliest.

On being asked about terror angle, the ADG (Law and Order) Daljeet Singh Chaudhary said, “We are taking terror angle in full cognizance and a senior level ATS team with the help of other agencies are working. But as of now, it indicates personal matter, which is being probed extensively.” He said, “There were several matters, including professional and personal for which different teams have been constituted and are investigating them.”

Chaudhary had said on Tuesday that the two unidentified persons, seen in a video footage, were not suspects in the murder.
