10 People Dead & 22 Injured After Bus Crashes Into Truck Carrying Steel Rods In Thanjavur

With the death of three more people, the toll in the accident involving a Tamil Nadu government transport bus and a mini lorry near Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu, rose to 10, police said on Saturday. 

The mishap occurred late on Friday night when the Kumbakonam-bound bus collided with the mini lorry at Vallam near Thanjavur. The deceased included the drivers of both the vehicles. Twenty-two persons, who sustained injuries in the accident are undergoing treatment at the government medical college hospital in Thanjavur, cops added.

The truck was carrying steel rods that pierced some of the passengers during the accident, the NDTV reported.

The driver of the passenger bus, carrying around 60 people, and the truck’s driver died on the spot. Police are investigating the cause of the accident and suspect that speeding may be the reason. 

The NDTV report stated that the kin of the 10 casualties will be given Rs 1 lakh each, according to the office of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami. The state government has also declared that Rs 50,000 will be given to the injured.
