Today is the first Tuesday when the Millennium city Gurgaon is observing a ‘Car Free Day’ from 7 am to 7 pm to encourage the use of public transport. However, there has been a mixed reaction from public about the initiative with many uploading pictures of massive traffic jams at several places in Gurgaon.

At the same time, the move has been hailed as a small-step towards becoming a car-free city.

Worldwide, September 22 is observed as Car Free Day. Gurgaon by going car free on Tuesday joined the league of famous cities like Beijing, Washington DC, Paris, Budapest and Indonesia.

In order to facilitate use of public transport, Rapid Metro decided to increase the frequency of trains to 3 to 3.5 mins which would mean 225 trains and reduced waiting time for users.

Also, Metro feeder buses are being provided from major metro stations like Huda City Centre, Sikanderpur, Indus Bank Cyber City and from Kapashera border to the major IT hubs of the city.
