Newly-Married Couple From Chennai Shot At On A UP Highway While On Vacation

A newly-married couple from Chennai was shot at by two unidentified bike-borne men on National Highway 58 in Muzaffarnagar disitrict of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, reports PTI.

Aditya Kumar (30), the manager of a Chennai-based company, and his wife Vijaya Lakshmi were travelling from Haridwar to Delhi when some bike-borne men intercepted them near the Bhagonwali by paas  and opened fire.

Police said the couple was on a vacation to Uttarakhand and were accompanied by a friend named Shyam Teja. The trio had hired two bikes from Delhi and were headed to Uttarakhand, reports The Times of India. 

After being shot, Aditya lost control of the bike and the couple fell on the road. Their friend informed police about the incident. 

Aditya was hit by a bullet on his neck while his wife also sustained injuries. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital from where they were referred to New Delhi for treatment. 

SHO Madan Singh Bisht of Nai Mandi police station told TOI that it could be a case of mistaken identity, road rage or a robbery attempt, and they are probing it from all angles.
