The cricketing world witnessed yet another ‘Gayle Storm’ on Monday, January 18, after West Indies’ explosive batsman Chris Gayle smashed the fastest Twenty20 half century. It took him just 12 deliveries.
With this spectacular performance, Gayle now equals the world record made by Yuvraj Singh against England in Durban in 2007. The half-century was scored in a Big Bash League (BBL) match between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades.
According to a report by Cricket Country, the swashbuckling half-century came at a strike rate of 329.41. It included seven sixes and two boundaries.
However, he didn’t make it too far beyond the record. He was finally dismissed for 56 off 17 deliveries while trying for another big hit.
Gayle’s knock also broke BBL’s earlier record for the fastest fifty, from 18 balls, which was set by Tim Ludeman in the 2014 edition of the tournament.
