Women are touching newer heights every day and breaking records like anything, field no bar. Now, NASA has announced a record-setting mission of the longest single spaceflight by a woman.
According to NASA, astronaut Christina Koch, who arrived at the International space station on March 14, is scheduled to stay in orbit till February 2020.
Koch’s mission will break the previous record of 288 days by Peggy Whitson in 2016-17.
Talking about her mission, aboard the ISS, she said,
It feels awesome. I have known that this was a possibility for a long time, and it’s truly a dream come true.
The extended mission of Koch will help scientists gather additional data about the effects of spaceflight orbits longer than the normal 6-month expeditions.
The record of the longest single spaceflight is of 340 days, set by former astronaut, Scott Kelly. Koch’s mission is just a few days shy from breaking this record.
