On Wednesday, a 6-year old girl, studying in Class I, was allegedly sexually assaulted in a toilet of a school in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar. According to the child’s father, the female staffer, who was supposed to help children in the washroom was not present at that time.

“She had been sent downstairs for some work. After using the washroom, my daughter called the woman for help, but the male employee entered and assaulted her sexually. My daughter shouted and rushed to her class,” he said, reported Hindustan Times.

The incident came to light when the child returned home and told her mother about it. The parents immediately took her to AIIMS where doctors confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted, the newpaper reported.

According to reports, doctors told the child’s parents that she will have to undergo surgery to treat her internal wounds. Police have filed the FIR and arrested the accused who is part of the housekeeping staff and had joined three months ago. The man has now been sent to judicial custody.

Nearly a month ago, seven-year-old Pradhuman Thakur was found with his throat slit in a washroom of the Ryan International School in Gurugram district.

In a similar incident, a five-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a peon inside the premises of a private school in Shahdara.

After the probe, major lapses in security were identified in both the cases. Despite various incidents of sexual assault and child abuse in schools in the national capital, the administration of schools remain ignorant of the new security guidelines.
