Remember clock boy Ahmed Mohamed? The Muslim teenager who was handcuffed and suspended from his school in America because he was carrying a home made clock that was mistaken for a bomb?

After more than a year since the boy gained popularity overnight for being a victim of racial hatred and profiling, he has finally decided to sue the school, according to a report in The New York Times.

The lawsuit claims that the boy’s civil rights were violated when he was wrongfully handcuffed and suspended for carrying a clock that, according to the school authorities, faintly resembled a bomb.

The incident had grabbed headlines at that time with people from around the world standing in solidarity with the boy. Accusations of racial and religious profiling fueled the hashtag #IStandWithAhmed. Even President Obama invited the boy to meet him and said that it was children like Ahmed that made America great.

A lot has changed for the boy since the incident. He was suspended, his family faced threats and were forced to leave the country for Qatar. And the sad reality is, the incident has left its scars on the poor child.

In an interview with The Independent, he says,

“I have lost my innocence. I can never look at the world in the same way.”

We hope Ahmed regains his faith in the world.
