Italian Shop Unknowingly Got People High On Chai. Turns Out It Was Cocaine

For most of us, the morning newspaper loses its charm if unaccompanied by a cup of tea. Most of us need a cup of tea just to get out of bed. Some of us even need it for morning sandaas.

The unofficial national drink of India, tea becomes all the more important in winters like these.

Some people even opt for the healthier ‘herbal tea’. It’s supposed to detox, cleanse and refresh you.

However, some Italian shops took the term tea addiction to literal levels when cocaine leaves were found in herbal teas being served by them.

The shocking discovery was made when a 38 year old bus driver was found with traces of cocaine in his bloodstream. The driver claimed that he’d had a cup of ‘coca’ tea at a cafe the day before.

The driver also claimed that the tea made him more alert.

A doctor then tasted the tea and tested positive for cocaine.

The police found out that the owner had all the relevant documents and used to legally buy his tea from a Peruvian wholesaler.

We wonder if Rahul Gandhi too enjoys a cup every now and then.

Ek garam chai ki pyaali, anyone?
