Personnel of CRPF in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada have been accused of molesting a group of schoolgirls at a government hostel during a cultural programme, a report in Hindustan Times says.

Chhattisgarh Police has registered an FIR against the unknown personnel and started an investigation.

“There was programme of a private news channel on Rakshbhandhan going on in the hostel in which the CRPF personnel were invited so that the girls could tie rakhi on July 31. When the programme concluded, few girls went to the toilet and there they were molested by the CRPF personnel,” Himanshu Kumar, an activist, who wrote about the incident on Facebook told HT.

He also alleged that the girls were molested on the pretext of frisking and the senior administrative officers didn’t take notice of the matter.

The complaint was lodged by the warden of the government hostel in Palnaar, which falls 25 kms away from the district headquarters of Maoist stronghold of Dantewada. Police has so far not recorded the statement of the girls.

This is not the first time complaints of abuses by security personnel in the disturbed region have come to fore. CRPF has been accused of rapes, custodial killings, torture and abuses in the past as well.
