Dalit Youth Found Dead With Leg Chopped Off In Punjab’s Mansa, 6 Upper Caste Men Booked

In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old Dalit youth was found dead with his leg chopped off in Mansa district of Punjab. The body of the youth identified as Sukhchain Singh Pali was found around 10 pm in Gharagna village on Monday and six people have been charged with murder, reports NDTV.

According to a report by the Indian Express, Pali was involved in liquor smuggling. His father Resham Singh, said in his police complaint that he was attacked by a rival group which was led by landlords of the village. All the six accused, Amandeep, Balbir, Sita Singh, Babreeq Singh, Hardeep Singh and Sadhu Singh, belong to upper castes.

Pali’s family has also alleged that he was killed for being a Dalit. They have refused to cremate his body until his missing leg is found and the accused are arrested. 

A similar incident happened a year ago when a 27-year-old Dalit man, Bhim Tank, and his associate, Gurjant Singh, were attacked with sharp-edged weapons at ruling Shiromani Akali Dal leader and liquor baron Shiv Lal Doda ’s farmhouse in Fazilka district’s Abohar, reported Hindustan Times.
