Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is all set to become the first plastic-free airport in India in the next five months, according to a report by TOI.
The project currently takes into account single-use (disposable) plastic and will cover all three terminals of IGI airport.
Disposable plastic items that are thrown away after one use come under this category.
This initiative aligns itself with the government’s goal of eliminating all single-use plastic by 2022.
Reports suggest that several outlets at the Delhi airport have already replaced single-use plastic with paper and bio-based compostable materials.
Reports further state that, after Delhi, Bengaluru International Airport is also taking necessary steps to ban the use of single-use plastic.
This is an appreciable effort keeping in mind the problems increasing amount of plastic waste is posing to us.
