Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has made plans to make the last mile eco-friendly by offering electric bikes at a total of nine metro stations on blue and yellow lines.
Basically, the entire idea of the ‘last mile’ is to have a mode of conveyance from metro stations to people’s homes.
According to reports, Bengaluru based bike-sharing app Yulu on Monday launched operations in the national capital. The company has launched services from Dilli Haat (INA) to JLN Stadium in Central Delhi in collaboration with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and will be catering to first and last-mile connectivity for commuters and to reduce congestion and pollution in the city.
The bike-sharing app’s Bikes Chief Executive Officer added,
With the launch of our operations in Delhi, we are providing a green commute option to the residents of Delhi and are committed to expanding our services to the whole NCR region. We are proud to collaborate with DMRC for a common vision of better first and last-mile connectivity, reducing congestion and improving air quality.
The reports also mention that the app has deployed about 250 electric bikes in Delhi to facilitate last mile connectivity. The company also plans to have 5,000 of them across Delhi-NCR. The bike-sharing app will also have 25,000 electric scooters by latter half of 2020 covering all the metro stations.
