Holding back on popping those unholy zits on the face is a feat most of us have a tough time with. But here’s a reason that’ll help keep you from popping those puss nuggets in the future.
There is a danger triangle on the face that could help spread infections to the brain.
The danger triangle of the face consists of the area from the corners of the mouth to the bridge of the nose, including the nose and maxilla. An infection in this area could easily make its way upto the brain via the cavernous sinus in the cranial cavity.
Popping a pimple basically tears skin open for bacteria to infect.
Apart from possibly leaving a scar, popping a pimple basically creates a tear in that particularly spot which could easily be infected, leading up to a blood clot within the sinus resulting in cavernous sinus thrombosis.
There might not be as many recorded cases of actual deaths due to popping pimples, but it is very much a possibility.
In fact, the relationship between the danger triangle of the face and a risk of cavernous sinus thrombosis was described as early as 1852. Cavernous sinus thrombosis could cause blood clots in the cavity at the base of the skull, possibly allowing the bacterial infection to make its way up to the brain. And, no one wants their brain infected.
