Former IIT Prof & Wife Who Had Locked Themselves In Flat 4 Months Ago, Found Unconscious

A former IIT professor and his wife who had locked themselves in their flat four-months ago were rescued by the police on Tuesday, reported Hindustan Times.

The matter came to light on Monday night when the neighbours of the couple complained of a foul stench coming from their flat in Kanpur’s Sharda Nagar.

The police barged in and found the 50-year-old professor Sanjeev Dayal fully clothed and unconscious in one room, while his wife Vidya was spotted naked under the bed in the next room.

And much to their horror and disgust, there were heaps of excrement lying around in the rooms as the couple had blocked the toilet door by placing wooden planks across it.

The couple has now been admitted to the Lala Lajpat Rai hospital in Kanpur where their condition is said to be critical.

”Their heartbeats and pulse rate are irregular. We are doing all we can,” said a hospital source.

Meanwhile, the police is examining the footage from CCTV cameras installed in both the rooms and trying to investigate the matter. As the couple led a secluded life, their relatives or neighbours were unable to provide any information about their condition.

The police is also trying to find out if the two suffered from depression or any other psychiatric condition.
