A four storey residential building collapsed in the Dongri area of South Bombay, killing 12 people and trapping around 40 to 50 victims under the rubble wreck.
Located in Tandel Street, Dongri, the Kesarbai building collapsed around noon. A team team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed for a search and rescue operation at the spot.
However, the narrow approach roads, huge crowds and thickly populated areas are proving to be hurdles in the search and rescue operation.
According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Disaster Management Cell, twelve people have died and five have been rescued so far from the accident site. Mumbai Police’s statement on the collapse.
According to CNN, the residents of the adjacent buildings are deemed dangerous, the residents are being evacuated for the same. Maharashtra state Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis commented:
Our main focus at the moment is to rescue the people trapped under the debris. After that we’ll focus on investigation.
As the search and rescue operations are in progress, the entire nation is praying for the victims, locals have been advised to stay away from the area to clear path for emergency workers.
