A month after a school textbook in Gujarat “erroneously” depicted Jesus Christ as a demon, a Class IV Hindi language book has described the word ‘roza’ as an infectious disease.
The textbook, published by the Gujarat State School Textbook Board (GSSTB), defines ‘roza’ or fasting during the Islamic holy month of Ramzan as “an infectious disease in which one suffers from diarrhoea and vomiting”, according to an Indian Express report.
The mistake was spotted on page number 13 in a story ‘Idgah’ by Premchand.
GSSTB executive director told TOI, “It is a grave mistake. The word ‘roza’ has been confused with ‘haija’ or infectious cholera.”
He also claimed that an emergency review will be conducted to prevent such blunders in future.
While GSSTB officials have claimed that the error has been eliminated from the online version, they have stated that it would be impossible to correct them in the printed version since the books have already been distributed, Times Now reported.
Authorities claimed that no official complaint has been received so far, but action will be taken against the person responsible.
