Gurmeet Ram Rahim Sentenced To Life In Prison For The Murder Of A Journalist

Convicted felon Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is already serving a 20-year life sentence in two rape cases was on Thursday, again sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati.

According to India Today, he was found guilty of the murder and sentenced by a CBI special court in Haryana. 

Chhatrapati used to run a newspaper Poora Sach, which had published a series of reports exposing the sexual abuse of girls and women in the Ram Rahim’s ashram in Sira, Haryana.

According to reports, he was shot on the 24th of October in 2002. He had succumbed to his injuries later. 

A case had then been registered against Ram Rahim in 2003. The CBI had taken over the case in 2006 and a charge sheet had been filed in 2007.

The CBI Special Court has also convicted three other accused, Kuldeep Singh, Nirmal Singh and Krishan Lal and sentenced them to life imprisonment with a fine of ₹50,000 each.
