An Indian-origin British journalist has been arrested by British Transport Police (BTP) on charges relating to paedophilia after a sting operation in London.

Hasan Suroor was caught on camera as he was confronted by members of Unknown TV, organisers of the sting operation, while he allegedly waited for a 14-year-old girl on Monday.

“A 65-year-old man has been charged with meeting a child following sexual grooming,” a BTP spokesperson said.

Suroor is set to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court this week.

According to reports, a member of the anti-paedophile vigilante group, Unknown TV, posed as a 14-year-old and allegedly solicited Suroor on social media.

Groups such as Unknown TV pose as minors on dating and social networking sites and watch for adult men who solicit sex with minors.

Suroor, who is based in London, writes columns for several Indian publications.
