Heavy Rainfall In Himachal Pradesh Cause Landslides & Flash Floods, Major Highways Blocked

Heavy rainfalls and landslides in the state of Himachal Pradesh have caused extensive damage in the last few days. 


According to the Times of India, the death toll in rain-related incidents in the state has now climbed to eight.

With massive flash floods being triggered due to landslides and continuous rainfall, National Highway 5 was blocked for few hours in the Kinnaur district, on Sunday morning. 

The landslide disrupted traffic and caused a heavy jam for hours.

NH-3, between Manali and Kullu was also partially damaged due to a landslide. 


According to reports, a man was washed away despite locals trying to rescue him in Kullu, while another died due on NH-3 when a landslide hit the highway near Hatkoti Kenchi in Shimla.

Heavy and medium-sized vehicles came to a stall as debris on the road prevented any movement in the entire Kinnaur valley. 

Where Kangra district received the heaviest rainfall of the season at 118 mm, Dharamshala (115 mm) and Dalhousie (73 mm) were not far behind.

All private and government schools in the entire region have been asked to remain shut till August 19. 

Severe waterlogging was reported in large parts of Mandi, a district in Himachal Pradesh. 

The town of Kullu suffered maximum destruction due to increasing level of water in the Beas river. 

Disaster management teams have been briefed on the situation and all the sensitive spots in Himachal Pradesh to ensure evacuation and relief activities take place on time.
