Indian Army, Twitter Join Hands To Help People Stuck In Kashmir Floods

After torrential rains in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, March 29, the government declared a flood situation as the Jhelum river crossed the danger mark in Srinagar. People living along the river banks have been asked to move to higher ground.

J&K; police, with the help of Indian Army has launched a massive rescue operation in the valley. “A senior police officer said three houses collapsed near Charesharief early Monday (March 30) morning trapping a dozen people inside”, Rediff reports.

At least 10 bodies have been recovered in Budgam after several people were buried by mudslides and hundreds had to flee their home. Over 20 people are still missing, Hindustan Times reports.

The Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation Syed Basharat Bukhari said that due to incessant rains, a flood-like situation has arisen in various areas of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. He said due to overflowing of Ferazpora stream, water has entered villages including Aarampora, Habak Tangoo, Bonechakal, Shale-Bone, Ghund Khwaja-Qasim, Matipora and Trikolbat, in Pattan sub-division, according to a Zee News report.

At least 100 personnel of the National Disaster Response Force have been rushed to Srinagar. “Communication lines are intact and we are prepared,” said OP Singh, who heads the disaster management force, NDTV reports.
