Here’s How Google Thanked The Man Who Owned ‘Google.com’ For 1 Minute

Remember the Indian who bought Google.com for just $12? Well, he got paid in true Google fashion!

Sanmay Ved, one fine day, while browsing through the list of domain names on Google domains, saw that google.com was available! if that wasn’t enough, it was available for the mere price of just ₹788! Of course, he bought it off. Though it was for a mere minute, Ved made the headlines after he wrote about his experience. His purchase, at that time, was followed by an order cancellation email from Google Domains soon after.

But Google doesn’t forget their own. In a blog post detailing the 2015 “Google Security Rewards,” the company wrote that they paid ex-Googler Ved $6,006.13 for his services.

“Our initial financial reward to Sanmay – $6,006.13 – spelled-out Google, numerically (squint a little and you’ll see it!). We then doubled this amount when Sanmay donated his reward to charity.”

It hasn’t been made clear how Google lost the domain name, but Ved eventually contacted Google Securities about the incident. Google Securities got back to Ved, offering a cash reward. When Google Securities found out Ved would be donating the money to a charity organization, the Art of Living India foundation, Google doubled the reward amount.
