US President Donald Trump seems to be very well versed with the kind of coverage Prime Minister Narendra Modi draws in a section of the Indian media. And the American premier seems envious of it.

According to a report in The Hindu, President Trump told Modi in his Oval Office that “you have a friendly press”.

Later, Trump told a posse of reporters in White House,

“I’m proud to announce to the media, to the American people, and to the Indian people, that Prime Minister Modi and I are world leaders in social media — — we’re believers — giving the citizens of our countries the opportunity to hear directly from their elected officials, and for us to hear directly from them. I guess it’s worked very well in both cases.”

But Trump’s remarks on the “friendly” Indian media and its alleged bonhomie with PM Modi have evoked sharp and witty commentary on Twitter with many taking a dig at the state of Indian media.
