Amid the storm that followed the clashes over “anti-national slogans” during the Afzal Guru event at JNU last week, Home Minister Rajnath Singh has made serious allegations about the event having the support of Lashkar-e-Taiba leader Hafiz Saeed.
The Home Minister said, “The nation must accept the reality that the incident that took place in JNU had the backing of LeT chief Hafiz Saeed. This is unfortunate,” and added that such “anti-India” activities will not be tolerated, The Indian Express reported.
The home minister did not provide more information, but the statement comes two days after the Delhi Police posted a screenshot of a tweet by a handle named Hafiz Muhammad Saeed which called on people in Pakistan to support JNU, as reported by The Times Of India.
Meanwhile the authenticity of the Twitter handle has not yet been independently verified, and the account has also been deleted, as police warned against abetment to any anti-national activity, and BJP’s Shrikant Sharma also alleged that Rahul Gandhi was speaking Saeed’s language.
This comes after the Delhi police demanded that the investigation into the row be handed over to NIA or Special Cell, and asked for a probe into links between the students and Afzal Guru.
