Falling in love is described as one of the best feelings in the world. Call it a rush of hormones or butterflies in your stomach, love makes everything around seem beautiful. We meet so many people in a day, but it takes that one person to make you giggle like a teenager around him or her.

But did you ever think about the exact time you fell in love? Or how much time does it precisely take to fall in love?

A 2010 study conducted by the Syracuse University reveals that it takes only a fraction of a second for our body to release euphoria-inducing chemicals such as oxytocin, adrenaline, vasopressin and dopamine, in different parts of the brain. These neural pathways, twelve in number, collectively work to generate the feeling of love.

According to the study, this process takes only one-fifth of a second to happen. That’s quicker that a blink of an eye!

And for those debating whether it’s the heart or the brain that causes one to fall in love, this study holds both the organs equally responsible! According to Stephanie Ortigue, the professor who lead the study, the complicated process of falling in love happens both bottom-up and top-down, i.e. from the brain to the heart and vice versa.

It also says that the effect of love is like that of a drug. The initial rush is similar to being high on cocaine! Imagine that!
