In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old woman from Hyderabad who went to Saudi Arabia to work as a housemaid has died after being allegedly tortured.

The incident reportedly took place in Riyadh where the victim Asima Khatoon was working at the residence of Abdul Rahman Ali Mohammed. She breathed her last at the King Saudi hospital for chest diseases. Her family members were informed by an unknown person over the phone from Riyadh, says this report by ANI.

Two months ago, Khatoon had spoken to her family over phone to inform about the brutal treatment she was facing at the hands of her employer.

She informed her mother that she was being harassed mentally and physically and had also asked her family to make arrangements for her return.

Khatoon had left for Riyadh in December 2015 on a ‘house maid’ visa procured through an agent. She was issued a business visit visa for 90 days as the government had stopped issuing house maid visas two years ago. She was illegally confined in the middle-eastern country.

Chief Secretary of Telangana Dr Rajiv Sharma had written at the behest of the deceased victim’s family to rescue her from the clutches of her employer and bring her back to Hyderabad, just three days before her death.
