However, this year’s Eid turned out to be a little more special.

Thanks to a gesture by Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Udupi’s famous Sri Krishna temple.

According to a report by The News Minute, for the first time in the history of the temple, iftar was held in the temple premises on Saturday night in which more than 150 people participated.

The iftar saw members from the Muslim community breaking their fast at 6:59 p.m. after which they were served fruits and cashew nuts in the dining area.

The idea for the event was suggested by Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Pejawar Mutt who personally distributed dates among those present.

It should be noted that 30 years ago, Vishwesha Tirtha Swami had organized a similar Hindu-Muslim gathering during Eid at the Rajangana Hall in Udupi where members from the Muslim community had broken their fast.

However, this is the first time that they gathered inside the temple premises.

The seer also urged everybody to promote communal harmony and emphasised on the fact that we were all created by one creator.

After breaking their fast, members from the Muslim community also performed namaz within the temple premises.

Wish we all learn something from this. After all, this is what festivals are meant to do, bring people closer together.
