IIT Graduate Creates Device For Car Exhaust To Reduce Air Pollution. Our Choked-Up Lungs Thank Him

So many people across cities are suffocating because of the rise in air pollution. The case is even worse when it comes to cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Among many things that cause air pollution, the biggest culprit is vehicle emission. 

Thankfully, an IIT Kharagpur graduate took it upon himself and developed a device that can reduce air pollution caused by automobiles. 

Debayan Saha, a Global Biodesign student at Stanford University, built a device called ‘PM 2.5’. This device can be attached to the exhaust of the vehicle to reduce the pollution caused by vehicular emissions. Saha claims that if one car is fitted with PM 2.5, it can eliminate the pollution released by 10 cars in its neighbourhood.

In a statement to PTI, he said:

The technology developed by us uses a combination of electric energy and wave energy to influence the pollutants like PM 2.5 such that they act like a magnet attracting other particulate pollutants from the ambient atmosphere to get attached to it. As they grow bigger in size they become heavy and fall off safely on the ground like soil.

He’s planning to commercialise the device and is currently talking about it to various organisations.
