IMD Issues A Red Alert For Mumbai, Heavy Rain Is Predicted Over The Next 48 Hrs

A red alert has been issued by the weather department, following heavy rain in West and Central Maharashtra.

According to the IMD, heavy to extremely heavy rain is predicted in several regions of Maharashtra till 4th and 5th August.

A specific red alert has been issued for Mumbai till Sunday, 4th August.

KS Hosalikar, Deputy Director General of Meteorology, IMD, Mumbai, said:

“With the development of low pressure area over Bay, this Saturday night and Sunday, Mumbai is very likely to get intense heavy rainfall.”

Mumbai police also issued an advisory and warning in this regard.

People are tweeting pictures and videos to warn others about the current situation in many areas of Mumbai.

As per reports, with almost 2 months still left for the monsoon to end, Mumbai has already surpassed the 2,000 mm rainfall mark and has so far covered 91.4 percent of the season’s average rain.
