If one were to go by goes by Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar’s claim, then India will achieve 100 percent literacy in the coming five years.
Speaking at the ‘Festival of Education’ organised by the Rajasthan government along with education provider GEMS Education on Saturday, the minister said “There was a literacy rate of 18 percent in the post independence era. Today (Saturday) it has gone up to 80 percent and I guarantee that within next five years, it will be 100 percent. There will be no illiteracy in the country”.
Suggesting to train students to become ‘guru’ to their illiterate parents, grandparents and other family members, Javadekar emphasized on the need to pass on the knowledge to the deprived for complete eradication of illiteracy.
According to Indian Express, he also encouraged to make learning more enjoyable in order to check dropouts and appreciated Rajasthan government’s role in improving government school education and their competitiveness.
He said this was important to harbor a healthy competitive environment between private and government schools.
