Indian Army Veteran Lt General Abhijit Guha Appointed By The UN To Lead Ceasefire Mission In Yemen

Veteran Indian Army official, Lieutenant General (retired) Abhijit Guha has been appointed as the Chair of the Redeployment Coordination Committee (RCC) and head of the UNMHA by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. 

According to reports, Lieutenant General Guha will be succeeding Michael Lollesgaard, who served as RCC Chair and head of UNMHA from January 31 to July 31.

Guha, who has a national and international military experience of 39 years is tasked with leading the UN to oversee a ceasefire agreement in Hodeidah.  

A report mentioned,

The truce went into effect in December after peace talks in Sweden between the Yemen’s government and the Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who have been fighting each other since 2015. 
Outlook

Guha has served from 2009-2013 as the Deputy Military Adviser and the Military Adviser within the Office of Military Affairs of the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations while estabilishing the Office of Peacekeeping and Strategic Partnerships in 2013. 

Guha, reportedly retired from the Indian Army in 2013.
