Automation of lower-end jobs has led to the ‘releasing’ of around 8000-9000 employees at Infosys in the past one year, Economic Times reported.
These employees will now be working on more advanced projects from the ones they were on originally.
Talking at an event organised by Bengaluru chapter of Global Shapers, the human resources head Krishnamurthy Shankar at Infosys said, that the company is laying off about 2000 employees every quarter but also giving them training in special subjects that would help them find new jobs.
The company’s global HR head Saurabh Govil said already 3200 employees were released last November and the company aims at taking the figure to 4500.
According to a research by HfS Research, a US firm, more than 1.4 million jobs will be lost globally by 2021. India is also expected to lose 6.4 lakh low-skilled jobs in the next five years.
