Inventor Of Odisha’s Famous Sweetmeat ‘Chhena Poda’ Dies At The Age Of 86

The creator of famous Odisha sweetmeat ‘Chhena Poda’, Sudarshan Sahu, breathed his last at the age of 86 on Wednesday.

Sahu, who is survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters, was suffering from ill health for the last two years, reports Odisha TV.

According to Sahu’s son, Saman Sahu, his father made the sweetmeat in 1947 for the first time and the invention made Nayagarh district famous.

Chhena Poda is made out of cottage cheese and was created while experimenting with the left over cottage cheese. 

According to an incredibleorissa report, India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Odisha’s former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik were impressed with chhena poda and had praised Sahu for his creation.

Many gathered at his ancestral home to pay their last respects to Sahu, the report adds.
