Now That’s Talent! Sri Lanka’s U19 Spinner Bowls With Both Arms In One Over

He’s still far from the likes of Muttiah Muralitharan or Ajantha Mendis, but Sri Lanka’s U-19 spinner Kamindu Mendis is still making headlines early in his career for being able to bowl with both arms.

Kamindu displayed all his ambidexterity against Pakistan in the undergoing U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh — bowling left-arm orthodox spin and right-arm off-spin in the 27th over.

The idea is simple — the 17-year-old can turn the ball away from both left and right handed batsmen.

He can also reverse sweep with aplomb, taking on Ahmed Shafiq in the 18th over as Sri Lanka tried to chase down 212 in a Group B match, scoring three runs off the shot. He ended the match as Sri Lanka’s top-scorer (68 off 104 balls).

Kamindu, who is naturally a left-armer and started practising with both arms when he was 13-years-old, finished with 21 for zero in four overs in the game. But one hopes this is just the beginning for a player who’s been noticed by Sri Lanka’s selectors since last year.
