Jharkhand-Based NGO Yuwa Becomes The Pride Of The Nation After Winning Prestigious Laureus Award

Yuwa, a Jharkhand-based NGO which works for girl empowerment won the Laureus Sport for Good Honour Award last Sunday. They are the third in the nation to have bagged the prestigious honour.

Four girls out of the 450, Hima, Radha, Nita, and Konika received the award on behalf of Yuwa at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Monaco.

The NGO was founded by Franz Gastler and Rose Thomson Gastler in 2009. Since then, they have been running a football programme covering 450 girls from across rural Jharkhand.

The girls even got a chance to play with legends – Arsene Wanger, Cafu, Boris Becker, and James Marsden before the event.

Twitter roared with congratulatory messages for the little brave ones.

India bagged the award fifteen years after the cricket teams of India and Pakistan won it for spreading the message of peace through sport.
