Kerala Jails To Send 50,000 Chapatis To Flood-Hit Chennai

Giving a helping hand to the Chennai flood victims, the Kerala Prison Department is planning to send chapatis and jam to the stranded people there in the city.

As many as 50,000 ‘jail-made’ chapatis , prepared by prisoners at the Poojappura Central Prison here, along with jam will be airlifted from the airport here on Saturday morning.

“The chapati and jam will be sent by an Air Force flight. It will be handed over to the government authorities at Chennai,” Poojappura Central Jail Superintendent A G Suresh told PTI.

Over 60 prisoners are preparing the chapatis under the guidance of 35 jail staff at the jail, he said.

The central prisons in Thrissur and Kannur are also planning to send chapatis to Chennai as part of the relief programme.

A number of Malayalam film personalities including Mammootty, Mohanlal, Dulqar Salman, Manju Warrier and Ashiq Abu also offered support to flood victims in Chennai.
