A local journalist was killed after a car driven by an IAS officer rammed into his bike in the middle of the night in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram.
According to a local auto-driver who saw the whole incident, the IAS officer was in a drunken state and also tried to provide first aid to the victim, reports India Today.
The victim KM Basheer, Bureau Chief of Malayalam daily Siraj, was on his way home when a speeding car driven by Sriram Venkatraman, 2012 batch IAS officer, rammed into his bike.
The accident took place at around 1.35 AM and instantly killed Basheer.
Sriram Venkatraman had returned after spending a year in Harvard last week and was posted as Director of Survey and Land Records on August 1.
He is famously known for his crackdown on land mafia in Idukki during his tenure there as a Sub-collector.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala offered their condolences on the death of the journalist.
